Post 120 – And Some Workplace Facts

Today is another milestone in my blog challenge – this is post 120!  Writing is a great way to share your knowledge and to help others; for me, it is in the areas of both personal development and workplace issues.  It gets easier as time goes by but content ideas can be challenging.  However, inspiration is all around if you pay attention.

So, today I thought I would share some interesting facts from a recent study that was published by Randstrad, which is a staffing firm.  Of those studied (3,251 full-time workers):

  • half said the economic slump stalled their careers
  • half said they would be looking for new jobs as the economy improves
  • a portion of those surveyed said that they would be staying at their current jobs (exact numbers unknown)
  • women surveyed were more positive on their career outlook than men and indicated that they were less likely to look for a new job in the next six months
  • most surveyed said they felt they were valued by their employer and enjoyed going to work
  • 58% of those surveyed said they did not believe they could find the type of job they would want

What do these results mean?  to me, three findings appear:

  1. workers are actually satisfied with their current employment; this might be surprising considering that all we ever seem to hear is “how bad things are out there”
  2. people who have a negative view will be kept down by this negativity; that could mean good news for those who are looking to make a career transition as you won’t be competing with these “Negative Nellies
  3. more and more job openings will be created as people look to change jobs as their confidence in the economy improves; job-seekers who pay attention and are diligent in their job search strategy can be ahead of the pack in filling these slots or move up within their organization

Not sure how you interpret these results but I tend to see the positives; those who do will see the opportunities and go after them.  Do you agree or interpret these results differently?  Would love to hear your thoughts!
